Our Personal Insider Tip in the Ybytyruzú Mountains

Untouched Rainforest Beyond the Beaten Path

Beyond the well-known attractions of the Ybytyruzú Mountains, there are places that do not appear in any traditional travel guide. One of them is located directly on our own property.
Spread across approximately 25 hectares, this remarkable forest area has remained untouched by commercial use for more than 50 years. Only around two hectares were once cultivated by the previous owner. Over the decades, nature has reclaimed most of the land, creating a unique environment that offers a glimpse into Paraguay’s original landscape.
Those wishing to experience Paraguay in its wildest and most authentic form can explore this hidden natural retreat. A small river marks the boundary of the property and provides the setting for an adventurous riverside hike. Parts of the terrain are steep and densely vegetated, allowing large sections of the forest to retain their untouched character. With a spirit of adventure and, in some areas, the assistance of a machete, visitors can discover secluded corners of the forest that still possess the atmosphere of true wilderness.
Particularly striking are the natural rock formations, where decades-old trees cling to the stone with their massive root systems. Between the rocks, dense forest, and occasional viewpoints, visitors encounter photographic opportunities rarely found elsewhere in Paraguay.
Near the site of a former settlement, traces of the past can still be discovered. Old mango and avocado trees, likely several decades old, continue to grow there today. Hidden within the forest lies a large millstone whose origin and history remain largely unknown. In some places, the foundations of former buildings can still be seen, now almost completely reclaimed by the surrounding vegetation.
Despite our long-standing connection to this property, there are still areas that even we have never explored. The dense vegetation, challenging terrain, and sheer size of the forest ensure that new discoveries continue to be made.
As the area lies far beyond established trails and can be demanding in places, visits are only possible in the company of a guide. This allows guests to safely explore the most fascinating and scenic parts of the forest.
This is not a developed tourist attraction, but rather a rare opportunity to experience the original landscape of the Ybytyruzú Mountains—far from marked trails, entrance gates, and crowds of visitors.
